Level 1 coaching course in Dublin and further course planning:
We have seen great success over the last 12 months for a lot of our crews competing internationally (juniors, under 23’s and seniors) and a great uptake in all the Rowing Ireland development programmes over the last few years. With all of this there has been a big upswing in numbers of people looking to take up rowing. We are planning for this trend to continue given the hugely successful run at the Junior & Senior Europeans over the last few weeks and the great publicity that came our way. The knock on effect of this has resulted in a big demand for coaching courses all over the country.
In the last six months alone there have been coaching courses in Dublin, Belfast, Cork, Limerick, Galway, Enniskillen, Skibbereen, Tralee, Athlone, Carlow, Portadown, Coleraine and Fermoy.
Currently there is further interest for L1 courses in several centres including Dublin. We don’t normally put on courses other than Introductory during the busy regatta season however we plan to do so in Dublin during June.
Dublin L1 in June: The Level 1 will start in Dublin on Monday 12th June 6:30pm-9:30pm, continuing on Tuesday 13th June with 1 or 2 nights per week after that for a total of six sessions. The focus for the early sessions will be mainly on water work, technique, communicating your feedback to the rower and regatta preparation. Courses have been shifting to a more practical approach every year with coaches being given the opportunity to practice and receive feedback in live situations.
Please email for further information and booking if this Dublin Level 1 course would interest you to: email@example.com
In the autumn we will start the next Level 2 and Level 3 plus run further Level 1, Introductory, Safety/Safeguarding1 and launch driving courses. Please email your interest in any of these sessions so we can get a picture of where the numbers are geographically.
Child Protection Awareness and Safety Training
Rowing Ireland will run a series of Child Protection Awareness courses (also known as Code of ethics or Safeguarding 1) in each province throughout 2017. This is normally run as an evening course, approximately 6:30-9:15pm. This is the same as the course offered by the Local Sport Partnerships. Coaches must have this certification to move to L1 or beyond and is also required for coach licencing. This training is strongly recommended for anyone who is working with young people in coaching or any other capacities. There will also be a safety and risk assessment discussion on the night. Courses can be booked by contacting the tutor emails below.
Note, this module is being covered on all L1 courses and will be part of the upcoming L1 courses in Coleraine and Fermoy. People not attending the full L1 may link in just for this module but must register.
