The 2024 World Rowing Championships wrapped up today with a fantastic performance from the U19 Rowing Ireland squad.
The men’s quad of Michael McGrath, Jack Rafferty, Rian Claffey and Sean Morris was unlucky to just miss out on a podium finish in today’s final. As the race progressed, Ireland moved closer to the top three. In the last 500m, Ireland picked up the pace, but it wasn’t enough to edge ahead of the Czech crew.
The men’s coxed four faced strong competition in today’s final from the USA, South Africa, Italy, and Australia. They put up a good fight, finishing 5th. The crew showed great strength and perseverance in all of their races over the last few days. Huge congratulations to them on this result.
Anna Brennan and Moya Knowles were favourites in the Women’s Double Sculls after narrowly missing out on an A final position in yesterday’s semi-finals. The New Ross and Skibbereen scullers faced a tough battle as the Slovakians went out hard and led the race until the last 250m, when the Irish picked up the rate and made a phenomenal sprint to the line, taking first place in the B final and 7th place overall in the 2024 World Rowing Championships!
