Thursday, 23rd – Friday, 24th January

In light of the approaching storm forecast to bring winds exceeding 160 km/h, we urge all members to prioritise safety during this severe weather event.

General Guidance:

  • Stay updated on your local weather forecast.
  • Avoid all unnecessary travel during the Red Warning period.
  • Refrain from going on the water.
  • Cancel all club activities, including training sessions, trials, meetings, and gatherings
    (unless online).

Club Premises & Equipment:

  • Secure all outdoor equipment. Where possible, store small items such as oars, trestles,
buckets, and hoses indoors to prevent damage.
  • Ensure equipment left outside is tightly fastened to avoid it becoming a hazard.
  • Secure boat house doors and avoid opening them during the storm.
  • Check that slips, pontoons, and launches are safely moored. Launches left on the
water should be securely tied to prevent damage.

Post-Storm Safety:

  • Watch out for fallen trees, power lines, and debris.
  • Before resuming water activity, send out a coach’s/Safety launch to scout for hazards
such as lodged or floating debris. It would be in the clubs’ best interest to record a
    post storm risk assessment.
  • Coastal clubs should remain cautious of rough water, dangerous waves, high tides,
and shifting sandbanks. Check all moorings and assess the conditions before resuming
    operations

Please ensure that all members are made aware of this guidance – via the Club’s
communication channels, that rowing and any other club-based activities are formally
cancelled until after the official RED weather warnings expire.
