Athletes Announced for European Championships 2019 – Updated 20/05/19

Rowing Ireland’s High-Performance Director, Antonio Maurogiovanni has announced the team that will travel to Lucerne for the 2019 European Rowing Championships.

The Irish team will arrive and train in Lucerne from May 27th in preparation for the Championships that will take place from 31st May – 2nd June.

Rowing Ireland’s High- Performance Director, Antonio Maurogiovanni said “After the international Regatta in Piediluco held 4 weeks ago we are proceeding with the preparation which is going towards the competition phase through the European Championships. This is a tough event where most of the European countries reach the first peak in order to perform at their best.

Our Ireland team is coming out from the winter preparation and ready to perform at its best. It is a good solid test for all our crews. We have few medical issues but I am confident that all the team’s members will be in good shape to show some good competitive speed”

One notable absentee from the Irish team is Paul O’Donovan, who is unable to compete in the European Championships due to his ongoing academic studies and exams running up to early June, however, he continues to train and will be available for the rest of the season after the Europeans.

Update – 20/5/19

Due to illness, the Women’s Pair of Aifric Keogh and Monika Dukarska will not compete in the European Championships.

They will now travel to World Cup II with the W4-, which will take place in Poznan, from 21st to 23rd of June. The Women’s four will compete at World Cup II due to exam commitments during the European Championships.
