Coupe de la Jeunesse 2019 – Results

Six Irish crews took part in the Coupe de la Jeunesse that was held in Corgeno, Italy over the weekend.  Friday’s racing started with the JW8+  taking part in the Final and finishing 7th after a hard-fought race.

Saturday– JM4x, JW2x, JW2- all made the A finals with the JW4x and JW4- going into the B finals. JM4x finished (4th) and very unlucky not to medal. The newly formed JW2x finished in (5th) as did the JW2-.  The JW4- 2nd in the B final (8th) and the JW4x (8th)

Sunday – on the second day of racing the two quads (men and women) made the A final after both finishing 2nd in their heats. The Junior women’s quad showing a big turnaround from the previous day finished just over 1 second off a medal in (4th) place. The JM4x again finished in (4th) place. The JW4- showing improvement from the previous day this time winning the B final (7th) as did the JW2- (7th). The JW2x made the B final (12th)

Rowing Ireland’s High-Performance Director, Antonio Maurogiovanni said: “Overall it was a very positive experience for our crews all gaining valuable racing experience on the pathway to Junior and ultimately senior international racing. With 50% of this squad Junior again next year the future looks bright”.

The Irish Coupe Team Manager, Lisa O’Callaghan said, “There were some strong performances over the two days with crews learning a lot from day 1 to day 2. It was also great to see the seniors, who are on their pre-Worlds training camp in Italy, come to support these junior athletes”
