Ireland had two crews competing at the Coupe de la Jeunesse 2021 this weekend in Austria. The two crews raced in four A Finals and took home three medals,

The Junior Women’s Pair of Evelina Zakarauskaite and Patti Mullin won Gold on Saturday and again on Sunday. The Women’s Quad of Lauren McCarthy, Giselle Coulter, Caoimhe O’Sullivan and Anna Keating won Silver on Saturday and then finished 4th on Sunday.

On Saturday, the Women’s Quad finished second and won Gold in the Junior Women’s Quadruple Sculls A Final. They beat crews from the Netherlands, Poland, Hungary and Austria to claim the Silver medal and finished behind the French crew that went on to take Gold. The Irish Quad finished with a time of 07:15.82.

Giselle, Lauren, Caoimhe and Anna finished fourth in the A Final of the Junior Women’s Quad on Sunday afternoon. After winning Silver already, they just missed out on another medal, finishing behind the crews from France, Netherlands and Poland. The Irish crew finished with a time of 07:04.99

The Junior Women’s Pair won Gold on Saturday afternoon. Evelina and Patti beat crews from Italy, France, Austria, Belgium and Hungary in the Junior Women’s Pair A Finals. The Irish crew finished with a time of 08:09.28 to claim their first Gold Medal.

Evalina and Patti went on to repeat their victory from Saturday and finished first in Sunday’s A Final. They beat crews from France, Italy and Belgium to win their second Gold Medal of the weekend. Evalina and Pattie finished with a time of 07:43.85.

Rowing Ireland’s High-Performance Director, Antonio Maurogiovanni said, “I want to congratulate all of the athletes and coaches on their performances and results in the Coupe de la Jeunesse this week.

“We had two crews selected and prepared at the High-Performance National Rowing Centre competing this weekend, on Saturday they won a Gold and Silver medal. On Sunday the women’s pair won Gold again the quad finished fourth in a successful weekend for our athletes.

“Thank you to their coaches Ray and Vivan for their work in preparing and coaching the crews over the last number of weeks. I also want to thank the athlete’s clubs and their families for their support.

“This is their first experience at an international regatta for these athletes. The experience of this competition will be beneficial for their future development.”
