The 2014 European Indoor Rowing Championships took place on Saturday January 25th in Copenhagen, Denmark, with Irish athlete Jonathan Doyle, from Paddy Power IRC, competing in the Lightweight Men 40-49 category.
An international line-up of 14 rowers took part in the event, including athletes from England, Italy and Denmark. The stand out name in the event was the legendary Danish rower Eskild Ebbesen, multiple Olympic medallist, considered by many to be the greatest lightweight rower of all all time.
Ebbesen took an early lead, and maintained it throughout the race to finish in first place, setting a new World Record in his age category in the process, with a time of 6:16.8. Doyle took home a hard-earned silver medal in the event, finishing in a time of 6:30.3, with only 3.1 seconds to spare over the British rower in third place,
