Ireland will have two crews competing at the 2020 European Rowing Junior Championships. Holly Davies, Alison Bergin, Molly Curry and Aoife Moloney will be competing in the Junior Women’s Quadruple Scull (JW4x). The Men’s Quadruple Scull (JM4x) will be made up of Andrew Sheehan, Adam Murphy, Tom Kelly and Brian Colsh.
All eight rowers have been training in the Kinetica National Rowing Centre with our High-Performance Team and alongside the Senior and Under 23 athletes in preparations for the 2020 European Rowing Junior Championships in Belgrade this weekend.
The Women’s Quad will be competing alongside the best Junior athletes from eight other nations including France, Poland, Romania and Switzerland.
The Men’s Quad will be competing against 16 other nations with teams from Spain, Croatia, Serbia, Turkey and Ukraine in the category.
Rowing Ireland’s High-Performance Director Antonio Maurogiovanni said, “Both crews’ coaches by John Armstrong and Ciro Prisco have trained very well in their preparations for the European Rowing Junior Championships. These young rowers have competed at Home Internationals and Coupe de la Jeunesse in the past.
With the exception of Molly, who raced last year at the Junior World Championships, this competition is their first experience at this level, and the athletes are prepared physically and mentally for this weekend.
Training alongside the Senior and U23s at the National Rowing Centre has been an excellent experience for our crews and will no doubt be a benefit to them in the future. We look forward to an exciting weekend of racing.”
The racing starts on Saturday morning, both crews will be racing in the Heats from 10:20 am.
