For many of those selected to be part of the 2014 National Team, the 2014 international regatta season has already begun. While early results have been promising, Rowing Ireland continues to seek out talented athletes who are interested in competing as part of the National Rowing Team in anticipation of the 2016 Olympic Games and beyond. Rowing Ireland therefore would encourage any athletes wishing to be considered for the 2015 High Performance Squad to participate in the following events:
• Dublin Metropolitan Regatta – 17/05/2014
• London Metropolitan Regatta – 31/05 and 01/06/2014
• Cork Regatta – 21/06/2014
• Irish Rowing Championships – 11th-13th/07/2014
As well as taking part in these events, senior athletes wishing to be considered to compete internationally as part of the National Team for the 2015 season should complete and submit a maximum effort 2K & 6K (free-rate and drag factor) ergometer score before 01/09/2014, if not selected for the 2014 Senior World Championship Regatta.
The events listed above, as well as the ergometer test results will be used for talent identification & development purposes. Athletes who produce promising results will be considered for training weekends and camps with the High Performance Squad at the National Rowing Centre in Cork. Early season training weekends & camps will be scheduled to take place from September 2014 to February 2015.
Participation in the events listed above and completion of the ergometer testing is not compulsory for athletes to be considered for the 2015 season. However, with the 2016 Olympic qualification regatta to take place in August 2015, Rowing Ireland would encourage anyone interested in being part of the High Performance Squad to get involved as soon as possible. The 4 squads are:
– Men’s Heavyweight & Men’s Lightweight
– Women’s Heavyweight & Women’s Lightweight
At Dublin Metro Regatta on Saturday 17/05/2014 a Rowing Ireland stand & tent will be in place and High Performance Director Morten Espersen will be present for questions. A kick start plan will be presented for athletes and coaches, who show interest to be part of the Olympic Rio (2016) and Tokyo (2020) pathway.
