Get Going…Get Rowing began in West Cork in March 2017 through Sport Ireland (Women in Sport funding) and schools from the area, together with those in the city and other areas of the county, will come to Fr.Mathews Arena on Friday to enjoy a fun and active day.Since inception in 2014, the initiative has exceeded the initial targets set in consultation with the WIS executive with over 25,000 students having engaged in the programme in 2017. The programme also offers a clear pathway to club rowing and sport for life.
This terms programme commenced in October 2018 with schools facilitated to sign-up through Cork Sports Partnership website. The four-six week schools programme teaches the basic rowing skills together with the Olympic Value Education programme. Students will therefore not only learn to row, but also learn skills such as fair play, respect and dignity through the sport of rowing. Rowing Ireland are the first country in the World to roll-out this programme which is a joint World Rowing/International Olympic Committee project.
The Get Going…Get Rowing programme runs a series of Blitzit events for schools around the country including the All-Ireland Blitzit in Trinity College Dublin in October earlier this year, Splash and Dash in May 2019 and an On-the-Water Blitzit event on Hanover Quay, Dublin.
