Irish Coastal Rowing Championships 2019 took place the weekend of the 23rd/24th August
Rowers from all over Ireland gathered for the Irish Coastal Rowing Championships at the National Rowing Center, Farran Woods, Cork.
A total of twenty one clubs and three hundred and thirty one crews began to arrive from Thursday lunchtime, in preparation for this big event. The Chairman of the Coastal Championships Eddie Farr, Kieran Kerr Chairman of Rowing Ireland Coastal Division, Rachel Barry Chairperson of Whitegate RC, John Morrissey President of Whitegate Rowing Club and Shane Russell Regatta Director welcomed all clubs present at the crew declaration meeting ahead of the event.
With perfect rowing weather present and an amazing turnout, the Championships began on Friday morning and began with the Open Classic Men’s Final, with Castletownbere taking the Title of Irish Coastal Rowing Champion.Throughout Friday we saw a total of eleven highly competitive finals!
Saturday showcased twenty five exciting finals. From the youngest category of Under 12’s right through to our Senior Categories, all athletes competed formidably. Hosting our event this year was Whitegate Rowing Club, which did a phenomenal job of ensuring everything ran smoothly and left no stone unturned when it came to the finer details of the event! Whitegate Rowing Club also brought home the elite Club of the Day award!
Next year, all boats will be heading towards the north of Ireland as the Donegal Bay Rowing club will host this prestigious event on the 15th and 16th of August. The event will be held at LakeSide, Ballyshannon in Donegal.
Some clubs did also win medals over the weekend as some rowers competed in composite crews. It was wonderful as always to see such a camaraderie, bringing the many clubs and its members together to form mixed crew clubs for the Irish Coastal Rowing Championships.
