22nd August 2019
The Irish Coastal Rowing Championships 2019 is taking place on Friday 23rd and Saturday 24th of August at the Kinetica National Rowing Centre in Cork, the home of Rowing in Ireland. This year’s event is being hosted by Whitegate Rowing Club, one of Ireland’s leading coastal rowing clubs based in Whitegate in Cork Harbour.
The event will see more than 330 crews throughout Ireland of Ireland both North and South travel to Cork to take part in this spectacular event. Coastal Rowing is one of the few sports that can offer categories with rowers competing from the age of 10 to 70 +. The entries for this year’s event have increased from last year and the organisers say that it is shaping up to be a wonderful spectacle of rowing over the two days.
Racing will commence on both days with a 35-race schedule on the Friday with a mix of qualification heats and finals. On Saturday, there will be 25 finals with crews battling it out to be crowned Champions of Ireland. Regatta Director Shane Russell said, “The hosting of an event of this size is a mammoth task but there has been a very dedicated and hardworking team working on this since last December. Plans are at a very advanced stage now and we are all very much looking forward to welcoming the Coastal Rowers of Ireland to the National Rowing Centre here in Cork this week. We are delighted with the level of entries and it’s going to be a massive weekend of Rowing in Cork next week’.
For those looking to see what Coastal Rowing is all about then, it will certainly be worth calling out to the National Rowing Centre in Farran just outside Cork City on Friday 23rd and Saturday 24th August where you will be treated to a superb action-packed weekend of Rowing.
