Irish Rowing Championship 2019 Day 3
Day 3 of the Irish Rowing Championships 2019 kicked off today at the Kinetica National Rowing Centre. Another glorious day with perfect rowing conditions greeted crews from the very first race today. The morning racing saw a mix of heats and time trial events for Homes and Coupe de le Jeunesse.
Cork Boat Clubs Junior Woman’s pair of Jane Duggan and Claragh O’Sullivan had a great race and with their win also secured their spots as the Pair for the Coupe De La Jeunesse.
Aodhan Burns of Skibbereen Rowing Club won the Lightweight Men’s Scull over Enniskillen’s Darragh Larkin. While over on in the Lightweight Women’s Single Sculls, Margaret Cremen dominated the course and finished in a very comfortable first place.
Lee Rowing Club followed up their Junior Men’s Quad win from yesterday with a win in the Junior Men’s Double today. There was a hard fought race for second between Neptune Rowing Club and Castleconnell Rowing Club, with Castleconnell claiming the second place title by 0.375 of a second.
There was an incredible battle between St Michaels and NUIG in the Men’s Club 4+ which went to a photo finish with St Michaels winning by just 0.32 of a second to take the title.
In the Blue Ribbon Finals, UCD Boat Club came out victorious in the Men’s Senior 8+ and a composite crew of NUIG/Castleconnell took gold in the Women’s Senior 8+ final. Both races had the crowds on their feet and athletes put on a tremendous display of the hard work and dedication put in throughout the season.
