The 32nd Memorial Paolo d’Aloja International Regatta takes place this weekend in Piedluco, Italy, from Friday 13th to Sunday 15th April, where a team of five female elite Irish athletes will be competing for Rowing Ireland.
Olympian, Sanita Puspure (Old Collegians BC), will compete in the heavyweight women’s single sculls, while team mates Aileen Crowley (Old Collegians BC) and Monika Dukarska (Killorglin RC) race in a double scull, with Emily Hegarty (Skibbereen RC/UCC RC) and Aifric Keogh (UCC RC) competing in a pair.
The Italian regatta is a good test for teams at the start of the international rowing season, with World Cup events just a few short weeks away. Rowing Ireland last entered a team in the regatta in 2015, where our heavyweight women’s pair (which also featured Monika Dukarska) were winners in both Saturday’s and Sunday’s finals.
This year’s Rowing Ireland athlete contingent will continue on following the regatta to a training camp in Varese, Italy, with their coach David McGowan and High Performance director, Antonio Maurogiovanni.
A provisional timetable for the event is available here, subject to the mangers’ meeting and draw on Friday morning.
Best of luck to all!
