It was with great sadness and shock that we learned of the passing of our good friend and head coach Kieran Hynes suddenly yesterday evening. Kieran moved to the area with his wife Eithne 7-8 years ago having previously coached and rowed in Commercial Rowing Club Dublin. During this time our club went from one with few competitive rowers to a club bursting with talented young rowers. In this time we have seen our rowers win many national honours and even some compete successfully on the international stage representing Ireland. Hynsie was undoubtedly the main influence in possibly the clubs most successful period.
Well known around the country for his warm personality and infectious laugh, Kieran’s jokes and stories will live long in the memory for those that have known him. He was adored at the club by all especially our young rowers whom he put so much time and effort into coaching. His love for the sport and life was clear and he has left a huge void in our club and in our hearts. To his wife Eithne, son Declan and all his family and friends we extend our deepest sympathies. Funeral to take place in Dublin with details to follow.
To the man we have come to know and love so well, we will be forever in debt to you for what you have done for us and our club.
