About The Irish Coastal Rowing Championships
The Irish Coastal Rowing Championships are the National Coastal Rowing Championships run annually under the auspices of Rowing Ireland, the governing body of the sport of Rowing in Ireland. The event sees coastal rowers from throughout the island of Ireland come together to battle it out for the title of Irish Coastal Rowing Champions.
Coastal Rowing is a unique sport in that it caters for competitors across a wide spectrum of ages. Categories commence at the U 12 age category and go right up to Masters 50 +.
At the 2018 Irish Coastal Rowing Championships there were in excess of 300 crews that took part across the various age categories.
While the primary boat raced at the event is the Coastal Four, a four oar fibreglass boat. The event also promotes other styles of vessels and especially the traditional boats of where Coastal Rowing originated from. In this regard races are also hosted for vessels such as the Cork Yawls, Donegal Skiffs, East Coast Skiffs and Wexford Cots, just to name a few.
HOST CLUB 2019
The host club is Whitegate Rowing Club, based in Whitegate Village in East Cork, Ireland. Whitegate Rowing Club was founded in 1991 and has established itself as one of the leading Coastal Rowing Clubs in Ireland over the past 10 years. The club has hosted the National Coastal Rowing Championship events twice before in 2004 and 2010. The club has vast experience in organising rowing events and are working hard to ensure that the 2019 event will once again be a massive success for all taking part.
