Our Congratulations to Molly Curry

Our sincere Congratulations to Molly Curry from Coleraine Grammer School;

The National Schools Regatta at Eton Dorney in the UK has over 5000 competitors rowing over a 3 day championship. Molly was competing in the Championship Single Sculls which had 48 entries. The format was a time trial with the top 16 scullers going into A/B semi finals. The top 4 in each semi final progressing to the A final.
Molly rowed well in the time trial to finish 3rd overall. In her semi final after leading for the first 600m she finished second to qualify for the A Final, behind Lauren Henry who has been the top GB female junior trialist this year. In the final she was drawn beside Olivia Morgan and Lauren Henry who had together won silver in a double for Team GB at the recent Munich Junior Regatta.
Molly in the final went out hard and led from the front for the entire race and ended up setting a new championship record time of 07.54.88. Breaking the previous record that had stood from 2012 by 6 seconds.
Molly was delighted to win the event as she knows how good the GB girls are. After the race was over she was very impressed at how sporting and friendly both Lauren who was placed 2nd and Olivia who was placed 3rd, were to her. Molly has only just turned 17 so she has another year at this level and can potentially defend her title next year. She knows her success would not be possible without the great team of coaches led by Jeremy Johnston at Coleraine Grammar School. These coaches combined with her sponsor Holley Opticians and the Mary Peters Trust enable her to attend these events.
She is now looking forward to training with Rhiannon O’Donoghue in a double, with whom she has been pre selected to represent Ireland at the Junior World Champs in Tokyo.
