Rowing Ireland welcomes the announcement this evening from the Taoiseach together with Ministers Ross and Griffin on the Return to Sport and the funding measures announced for Sport and supporting clubs.
Speaking on the announcement Rowing Ireland’s Chief Executive Officer, Michelle Carpenter said “Supporting Clubs and Leading our Sport is a crucial pillar of our strategy. We will continue the work of the COVID-19 Working Group; we will also collaborate with our partners in Sport Ireland and the Federation of Irish Sport to give clubs all the necessary information for the return to rowing, regattas and the funding options available.
We understand the sacrifices that our athletes and our clubs have made in the last number of months. Everyone has been exemplary in producing systems, risk assessments and return to rowing formats while competing with us virtually and updating us on social media.
The COVID 19 Working Group will meet on Monday 22nd June and will issue updates on regatta’s and crew boats on Tuesday 23rd June 2020. We will also ensure that any further changes for our clubs in Northern Ireland are updated.
I wish to thank Ministers Ross and Griffin and our partners in Sport Ireland, Federation of Irish Sport and the Olympic Federation of Ireland, for their exemplary work in leading Sport across the country at this unprecedented time. We unite as a nation with Sport, and nothing has been more accurate over the last number of weeks.
I look forward to seeing crews on the water and regatta’s returning sooner than expected, as our rowing family comes together once again.”
