Dedicated rowing room opened in Dublin school

Rowing room

Caritas College in Ballyfermot opened a dedicated rowing room last Friday with the assistance of the Women in Sport/Rowing Ireland Get Going…Get Rowing initiative.

The room which was previously in dis-repair, was refurbished by a local builder, thanks to the efforts and perseverance from PE teacher Mary Ryan. The pupils of this all-girls school will now benefit from this room. Along with rowing focused PE classes the school have set up a Wednesday afternoon rowing club, a Thursday morning parents club and a Tuesday evening teachers club. The transition year pupils also row in Island Bridge as part of their TY programme. The residents of Ballyfermot have a strong tradition of rowing in the past with many members of Commercial and Neptune rowing clubs originating from there.

Ryan in an interview said she was delighted to have the facility and thanked the Get Going.. Get Rowing initiative for facilitating the project, without which the room would not be possible.
