Team Ireland’s Tara Hanlon was on Instagram duty for an Olympic Takeover as she answered supporters questions and gave an insight into life as a member of Rowing Ireland in Tokyo.

Despite the windy conditions Team Ireland’s crews took to the water on Sunday for practice ahead of the remaining races this week with Tara giving insights into the venue, fellow team members and what exactly a training day entails.

Tara also took the time to answer supporters questions about all things Rowing Ireland and the Tokyo Olympics. Here are some of the most interesting questions and answers;

How did the team get over the jetlag?

“The team are still adjusting, we did some prep over the camp in Italy and Spain before coming here also to try and get the body clock on Tokyo time.”

What does it involve being a research?

“The most important part of being a reserve in my opinion is supporting the team in any way I can, be it hopping into the boat if needed or keeping someone company before a race! It’s a tough job but made easy with the unreal athletes I have to look up to.”

How is the food? Have you eaten anything interesting?

“I had some sushi in the holding camp in Fukuroi! Also Japanese rice is 10/10!”

How is the course compared to back home?

“We’re well used to a bit of wind back in the NRC so the conditions are actually similar.”
