Paul O’Donovan came 4th in today’s U-23 World Championships in Varese, Italy.
With USA Campbell storming off the start it was a hard fight between the other scullers. O’Donovan was neck and neck 2nd/3rd place with the Turkish and Italian boats at the halfway mark but slipped into Forth place in the last 500m to be beaten by 2 seconds.
The lightweight double came forth in their B Final. Behind a strong field of Ukraine, Greece and New Zealand.
The Men’s coxless four of Fionnan McQuillan – Tolan (Grainne Mhaol RC), Richard Bennett (NUIG BC), Robert O’Callaghan (NUIG BC), Kevin Neville (NUIG BC). Came 6th in the B Final.
Denise Walsh withdrew from the competition due to illness.
The crew’s will now gear up for their next big event. The World Rowing Championships at the end of August.
