The 2017 Waterways Ireland Row For It League kicks off with Limerick Regatta this Saturday 22nd April and will run through the summer months concluding on 6th August at the Carrick On Shannon Sprints. A full days’ racing is in store at O’Briens Bridge from 9am to well into the evening as over 400 crews travel to Limerick representing more than 30 Irish clubs. With the Schools Regatta taking place the following day, this is one of the largest rowing undertakings to take place outside of the Irish Rowing Championships in July. The Limerick Regatta committee manage both events at the venue, and is an enormous operation to ensure racing schedules run smoothly across both days.
The League takes place over six events and involves races for men & women’s Junior 15 and Junior 14 coxed quads on inland waterways managed by Waterways Ireland.
These events supported by Waterways Ireland have revitalised urban and rural communities, and facilitated the development of local community associations and the kick start of significant event lead growth leading to real economic and social impacts.
Other events on the waterways include Triathlone, Killaloe Water Festival, Leitrim Blueway Adventure Festival, Dublin Dragon Boat Regatta, Docklands summer Festival and Triathy X.
Waterways Ireland promotes these events through www.waterwaysireland.org/events where more information on all the events can be found.
Branded Waterways Ireland ‘Row For It’ Junior League medals and t- shirts will be presented to the four winning crews, and each winning club will receive a Waterways Ireland pennant.
