Munster Branch Regatta
This weekend saw the inaugural Munster Branch Regatta take place in the National Rowing Centre. The regatta began at 9am and concluded at 5.40pm after 83 races had been completed. The event was well supported by the clubs of Munster and had three clubs travel from Leinster for whose support the organising committee are very grateful. The event would not have been possible without the fabulous volunteers who all gave so generously of their time. They came from the following clubs Bantry RC, Clonmel RC, Cork BC, Fermoy RC, Kenmare RBC, Lee RC, Lee Valley RC, Shandon BC, Skibbereen RC and Tralee RC.
2023 International Para Rowing Regatta
This weekend Katie O’Brien and Steven McGowan raced the Mixed PR2 Double at the 2023 International Para Rowing Regatta in Gavirate, Italy.
On Friday afternoon they raced the heat finishing in third position, sending them through to the A Final. Following on from some good racing in Bled at the end of last month for the European Championships, O’Brien and McGowan again put down a solid performance, crossing the line just a second behind current World Champions, Ukraine.
In the A Final on Saturday, Ireland narrowly missed out on the medals, finishing in fourth place behind. Ukraine, Poland and Israel. It’s consistently the doubles from Ukraine and Poland that are at the top of the medals in these events, and Katie and Steven are slowly making their way closer and closer to those targets.
Next up for the Galway duo is this weekends World Cup II in Varese, Italy.
