World Rowing Championships 2019 Day Three Results

On Tuesday Morning, three Irish Crews competed in the third day of the World Rowing Championship in Austria. With six Irish Crews already qualified for Quarter-Finals, two Irish Boats qualified for A/B Semi-Finals on Tuesday morning.

The W4- crew of Aifric Keogh (UCC), Eimear Lambe (UCD), Tara Hanlon (UCC) and Emily Hegarty (UCC) finished 2nd in their Repechage. The Irish W4- have now qualified for the A/B Semi-Final on Thursday. The Irish Four beat Italy, Germany and Russia to claim second, China won the Repechage just ahead of the Irish Crew. A top-eight finish would qualify the W4- for the Olympics in Tokyo next year.

Lydia Heaphy (Skibbereen), finished 3rd in her Repechage on Tuesday morning. The LW1x boat battled the Swedish boat throughout took the third qualifying place for the A/B Semi-Final. The Australian boat won the race with Italy finishing second. Lydia finished third with less than a second behind the Australian winner. Lydia’s Semi-Final will be on Thursday.

Hugh Sutton (UCC), Ryan Ballantine (Portora/Newcastle), Miles Taylor (Queen’s University) and Jake McCarthy (Skibbereen) finished 5th in their Repechage on Tuesday. The Irish Men’s Quad finished behind France and just missed out on a place in the A Final. Boats from the Netherlands, Denmark and Austria took the top three places in the race. Hugh, Ryan, Miles and Jake will race in the B Final on Friday.
