With crews travelling from as far away as Dublin, Portadown Boat Club had a great day’s racing on
Saturday 29th April. 16 Clubs attended the regatta this year with 160 races starting at 8am and
finishing at 6:30pm. The day was a long, but an enjoyable one for all.

The weather was favourable (with only a few showers to make it more interesting!) and with crews
launching and making their way to the start the racing was nonstop all day. With some very close
finishes over the 1000m course on the river Bann in Portadown.

Being the only full rowing regatta in the north of Ireland, Portadown Regatta has become a great
success. In all 222 medals were presented by Captain Louis Hesbrook and Club President Kevin
McDonagh to the excited winning crews. With some rowers winning both their allowed 2 races!

Along with the racing, a great spread of food was enjoyed by all attending the event. “I am very
proud of what we have been able to do today” the Captain, Louis Hesbrook, said “this has been the
most enjoyable and successful regatta we have ever run; it is great to see so many people here with
us enjoying the racing and the craic”.

The club itself is constantly looking for new rowers, and if anyone is interested they can contact Portadown Boat Club through their website or through their Facebook page.
