The 2026 Irish Coastal Rowing Championships got underway today, Saturday Aug 15, at the National Rowing Centre in Cork, hosted this year by Ballycotton Rowing Club.
Competitors from 15 clubs from across the country enjoyed fantastic conditions, setting the scene for an exciting opening day of racing. The action began with the heats before moving into a series of highly competitive finals.
In the Coastal Fours, host club Ballycotton showed an impressive display with 3 wins, followed closely by Kilmacsimon with a strong showing of 2 wins, Passage reigning Club of the Championships continued their form with 1 win, claiming the Senior Mixed title. Dunmanway showed huge potential for their underage by claiming a win in the U12 Women, in their first year competing in the Championships. Castletownbere also showed great merit in their underage claiming a win in U16 Women. Galley Flash showed strong contention in the overage categories, putting a strong performance in the Pre Veteran Women taking the title.
Castletownbere dominated the Open Sprint and Open Classic claiming both the Mens and Womens title in both categories.
The Timber Yawl races, proved to be a great spectacle, with Galley claiming the Womens title and Dunmanway taking the Mens. In the Traditional races, Wicklow demonstrated a huge performance claiming 5 wins, with Edermine following hot in pursuit taking home 1 win.
