Dear member,

Thank you for those who recently attended our Irish Championships and 1k events. We were delighted to be back at full capacity at both events. The weather was a big bonus for all of us. There were areas you highlighted that could be improved – we did try some new things this year, some of which were very successful and others perhaps less so. We must strike the right balance to ensure we are providing for all our members. One thing is for sure, though, we were busier this year than ever before, so the atmosphere was exceptional. It was clear that we were all delighted to return to normalcy in racing and regattas.

We want to address some of the critical points raised and which will be the areas of focus for the Championships Committee when we meet shortly to start preparing for 2023. We strive to do more for our members, and we want to assure you that this will be an essential topic for us in 2023.

As you may be aware, we are confined to our footprint and car parking at NRC by Coillte. We were delighted to welcome the Minister of Sport and the Taoiseach to show first-hand these roadblocks. The Chair and CEO are also meeting the Minister to follow up on complaints made to Rowing Ireland on behalf of competitors and volunteers. These complaints include the car park, charges, rent, lack of facilities and access. Please know we have heard you and are trying to improve the facilities for everyone at regattas in the NRC and assistance for Lee Valley RC move to its planned new home.

Although the vendor area was bustling, we achieved a varied food selection. However, we realise that some of the price points were an issue, and we will commit to working with our vendors next year to achieve a better all-around experience.

Many of you were disappointed that you could not visit the NRC building. As you have seen with the recent exceptional U23 and junior results, our centre is now open to all our development athletes. With increased requirements for equipment, there are now significant capacity issues that we have committed to addressing.

As you know, we run our Irish Championships with your help, our clubs and our members. We want to thank you all for your time and continued support in running this event and for your time filling in the attached survey.

The responses to the survey are collected and processed to get information and feedback for Rowing Ireland. We ask all members of Rowing Ireland to fill these out in a respectful manner. The information we collect from you is for internal use only and will not be shared with 3rd parties. You can contact us at all times to have your information changed or deleted. You can find our full privacy policy here.

Kindest Regards,

Michelle Carpenter,  Chief Executive Officer
and Pat Kiely, Club support officer
