Competitive Masters Rowing has continued to grow in popularity, with numbers steadily increasing year on year in Ireland. Masters Rowing in Ireland has also benefited from the creation of dedicated Masters Regattas which have greatly benefited a number of club crews with their preparation for competing internationally at the World Masters Regattas as well as bringing much needed competitive racing events to the rowing calendar.

To help strengthen this growth, a Masters Working Group has come together with the support of Rowing Ireland. The group has representatives from each province that bring a wide range of experience as rowers, umpires and event organisers.

The short-term aim of the Working Group will be to establish and improve communication and coordination between Masters crews and clubs. The working group will be meeting regularly over the next few months and the 1st priority is a dedicated point of contact for rowers, clubs and crews to submit ideas and suggestions on how Masters Rowing can be supported and developed in the future in Ireland. The group will also look towards next season to see how the existing events and potentially new events can be supported by Masters Crews.

A dedicated Facebook group has been created for Masters Rowers to join – ‘Masters Rowing Ireland – Competitive’.

The working group consists of:

  • Michelle Mc Donagh             Shannon RC
  • Kenny Mc Donald                   Shannon RC
  • Brian Richardson                     St Michael’s RC
  • Brian Crean                             Cork BC
  • Sheila Garrett                          Belfast Rowing Club
  • Gerry Murphy                         Neptune RC
  • Cathriona Power                     Tribesmen RC
  • Derek Bowen                           Rowing Ireland
  • Sean Heaney                           Galway RC

Stay tuned for further updates from the group as they get up and running. They will be in contact with clubs and rowers very soon to kick start the actions.

Well Rowed Masters!
