At the Rowing Ireland EGM held on 14 December 2025 the rule changes below affecting rower points were approved by clubs.
Proposal 1: Amendment to Part 2 of the Rules for Competitive Rowing, Rule 2.19.1, to remove the allocation of losing points from all events.
Proposal 2: Amendment to Part 2 of the Rules for Competitive Rowing, Rule 2.19.1, to limit J16–J18 registration points to a maximum of 200.
Proposal 3: Removal of winning points at regattas (Winning points retained at Championship events – 200 pointsfor a win, Novice Championship win reduced to 100 points).
Proposal 4 (a & b): Extension of the Novice category (and Championship eligibility) to two years, 100 registration points per year for all rowers up to a maximum of 200.
These changes took effect from the date of the EGM and have been implemented on Tracker as follows:
| 1. | All rowers retained the points they had accumulated up to the date of the EGM (14 December 2025) |
| 2. | Junior rowers who had already accumulated at least 200 registration points did not receive 100 (Sweep and Scull) points for 2025 |
| 3. | All rowers who were registered in 2025 (prior to 1 October 2025) and who had not already accumulated 200 ‘registration’ points received 100 (SW & SC) registration points for 2025. These registration points are in addition to any winning points accumulated up to 14 December 2025 |
| 4. | All rowers who were not registered in 2025 but who had been previously registered with RI for at least one year received 100 (SW & SC) ‘registration’ points on their rowing record |
| 5. | Novice Rowers’ Status was updated to enable those entering their second year of registration in 2026 with fewer than 200 points on their rowing record to retain their Novice Status (in either Sweep, Scull or both) |
Registration points are usually added on 31 December in preparation for the new rowing year. Due to the time required to update and test the Tracker software with the new points rules, the 2025 registration points changes were not fully implemented until 11 January 2026 and we apologise that this may have affected entries to some of the early Head of the River events.
The changes to remove winning and losing points from regattas have also been implemented. The first ‘status’ regatta to incorporate the removal of winning and losing points will be Skibbereen on the weekend of 11/12 April.
A number of clubs and rowers have queried their points allocation over the past 6 weeks but we are confident that the changes above have been implemented correctly. Again we apologise for the delay in responding and for any uncertainty caused. Individual rowers wishing to query their points records should in the first instance check with their Club Secretaries for guidance. If Club Secretaries believe an error has been made they should raise this with events@rowingireland.ie
