On Sunday, January 12th, the inaugural meeting of the Youth Commission took place at the Sports Ireland Campus in Dublin. The following topics were addressed at the meeting:
- The significance of junior rowing in Ireland
- The challenges of rowing for teenagers, including training, injuries, and nutrition
- Rowing venues such as Blessington and Lough Rynn
- The process for trials
- The potential for rowing workshops led by high performance athletes.
We also had the chance to meet with Michelle Carpenter, CEO of Rowing Ireland, and had an insightful conversation with her, during which we were able to ask several questions.
We’re looking forward to our next meeting in a few weeks.
A special thank you to Pat Kiely and Ciara Harte for organising the day.
