International Women’s Day is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity.
The theme of this year’s International Women’s Day is Break the Bias.
We all have innate biases and stereotypes which have been informed by family, friends, society and experiences throughout our lives. The challenge is to have awareness of those biases and to check and challenge yourself before we make assumptions and generalisations. For those witnessing or experiencing bias – call it out, challenge it and then break through it. We are working to achieve a sport where everyone is valued, respected and supported as equals. We are working to Break the Bias.
Rowing Ireland are celebrating International Women’s Day and building on it with a week long ‘Women in Rowing’ campaign. We hope you will join us in celebrating International Women’s Day and Women in Rowing Week in your club. Remember to tag @RowingIreland and we will share far and wide!
Today we launch our International Women’s Day Video.
Thank you to all the coaches, athletes and members who contributed content and a massive thank you to Eamon Glavin who pulled it together. We think it represents our rowing community very well!
Hope you enjoy! Happy International Women’s Day!
