Introduction to Rowing Course description
Our comprehensive one-day (or two evenings) program is designed to equip you with the fundamental skills and knowledge needed to become a proficient rowing coach. Each course is limited to a maximum of 16 participants to ensure an interactive learning experience. Throughout the course, you will engage in a variety of activities, including pre-course preparation, group discussions, breakout sessions, and practical coaching exercises.
Course Topics:
- Safety Considerations: Understand safety protocols and considerations for coaching athletes on and off the water.
- Coaching Skills: Discover effective strategies for conveying your message clearly and concisely to athletes.
- Understanding the Coach’s Role: Learn about the responsibilities and expectations of a rowing coach.
- Code of Behaviour: Explore the ethical and behavioural standards expected of coaches for the welfare of participants.
- Planning Coaching Sessions: Learn how to design and structure coaching sessions effectively, on and off the water.
- Rowing Technique: Learn about the Rowing Ireland’s unified approach to rowing technique for sculling, sweep and on the rowing ergometer.
- Physical Requirements for Rowing: Understand the physical attributes required for rowing and how to develop them.
- Practical: After attending the seminars you will have the opportunity to put your skills to practice.
Certification:
- Successful completion of the Introduction to Coaching Course qualifies you as an assistant coach under supervision.
- Please note that assistant coaches are not yet qualified to lead squads independently.
- As you gain coaching experience, you can progress to Level 1 certification.
- Upon course completion, successful Garda/Access NI vetting and completion of a recognised Safeguarding course, you will receive a Certificate of Achievement jointly issued by Rowing Ireland and Sport Ireland Coaching.
