Following a strong showing in Lucerne last weekend, where Ireland secured three podium finishes, Irish interest now turns to Henley Royal Regatta, with a number of domestic and high-performance crews lining up on the famous stretch of the Thames.
A highlight of this year’s Irish entry is a high-performance men’s quadruple scull featuring Olympic and World medallists. The crew is drawn from two of Ireland’s top double sculls combinations, who raced to third and fifth place at World Cup in Lucerne. With Olympic champions and seasoned internationals on board, this newly formed quad presents an exciting opportunity to assess combinations ahead of the World Rowing Championships later this summer.
Their first race is scheduled for Friday, where they’ll go up against the Dutch national crew—winners of multiple World Cup medals in 2024. Should the Irish crew progress, they will meet the reigning World Cup champions from Great Britain in the semi-final.
Commercial Rowing Club, alongside athletes from Trinity College Dublin and University of Galway, continues a proud tradition of Irish representation at Henley. A number of the crews are drawn from the same panel that claimed the overseas pennant at the Head of the River Race in London earlier this year.
With warm weather and a packed racing schedule ahead, Rowing Ireland extends best wishes to all athletes and coaches representing Ireland and their clubs at Henley this week.
