Rowing Ireland will host an Open Water Trial for Beach Sprints on the weekend of 3rd–4th April 2026 at Lough Rynn, Co. Leitrim.

Following a strong level of interest and a high number of PPT testing submissions, it has been decided to split the trial across two days to ensure a smooth and fair competition environment for all athletes.

Trial Schedule
Friday, 3 April – Senior & U23 Athletes
Saturday, 4 April – Junior Athletes

Trial Format
The trial will consist of on-water time trials, with both the start and finish taking place on the water.
Each athlete will complete three attempts.
The fastest recorded time will count towards the official rankings on the day.

Entries & Eligibility
Entries will open shortly and must be submitted through Rowing Ireland’s Tracker System.
Entry deadline: 7:00pm, Thursday, 26 March
Eligible athletes are listed in the download section below.
All athletes must submit PPT3 by 1 April to remain eligible for selection.

Boats & Equipment
Athletes are asked to bring and use their own boats where possible.

As Beach Sprint rowing continues to develop in Ireland, Rowing Ireland recognises that not all athletes currently have access to coastal boats. To support participation:

Athletes borrowing boats from coastal clubs will be required to pay a €10 fee per athlete to the club.
Clubs will receive a coordination form to help connect flatwater clubs with coastal clubs where required.
This process will help ensure sufficient boat availability across the trial weekend.

Volunteers Required
Volunteers will be essential to the successful delivery of the trial.
Parents and coaches who are available to assist are kindly asked to notify their club secretary, who will include volunteer availability in the coordination form circulated to clubs.
Further event information, including schedules and operational details, will be shared with entered athletes and clubs closer to the event.
