The countdown to the Rowing Ireland Irish Coastal Rowing Championships 2026 is officially underway following a successful launch event hosted by Ballycotton Rowing Club on Sunday, 14th June at the Garryvoe Hotel.
Held on a beautiful sunny afternoon, the event welcomed rowers, club members, volunteers, supporters, sponsors and members of the wider rowing community. Representatives from 11 Rowing Ireland affiliated clubs gathered to hear first-hand about the exciting plans for what promises to be the biggest and most exciting Irish Coastal Rowing Championships to date.
The launch provided an opportunity for the organising committee to outline a number of exciting developments for the 2026 championships, including the introduction of new race categories and an innovative plate race format, both designed to enhance competition, increase participation and provide even more racing opportunities for athletes of all levels.
Speaking at the launch, Jane Williams, President of the Board of Rowing Ireland, praised the tremendous commitment and dedication of the Ballycotton Rowing Club organising committee and the many volunteers working behind the scenes. She also highlighted the importance of events like these in strengthening the rowing community, encouraging participation and creating lasting experiences for competitors and supporters alike and said “Its going to be a great Championships with the exciting new races and technology for coverage. The Championship Committee is doing a tremendous job. And Ballycotton has shown great leadership and innovation in its second year hosting. Rowing Ireland knows the effort, skill and talent that you all have applied and we are pleased to support the event in any way we can.”
There was a wonderful atmosphere throughout the afternoon, with attendees of all ages enjoying the opportunity to meet, catch up with friends from clubs around the country and share in the excitement for the year ahead. Following the presentations, guests enjoyed refreshments while continuing conversations about the plans for the championships and the future of coastal rowing in Ireland.
The launch marked the beginning of an exciting journey towards the Rowing Ireland Irish Coastal Rowing Championships 2026. Ballycotton Rowing Club and the organising committee look forward to welcoming competitors, volunteers and supporters from across the country for what promises to be a memorable celebration of Irish coastal rowing.
