It is with great sadness that we share the news of the passing of Noel Casey, a man whose influence on Irish and international rowing has been profound. Noel passed away yesterday, leaving behind a legacy of excellence and dedication to the sport he loved so dearly.

Noel’s coaching career spanned decades, guiding countless rowers to national and international success both in Ireland and the UK. His latter years were spent supporting and nurturing the talents of rowers at Kenmare Rowing and Boating Club, where his immeasurable contributions helped shape the club’s success. For the past 12 years, his commitment to the club’s competitive scullers was unmatched, and his relentless pursuit of excellence—whether during a routine training session or a high-stakes competition—set a standard that inspired all who had the privilege to work with him.

Noel was known not only for his technical expertise and high standards but also for his warmth and storytelling. His tales of rowing in Kerry and London, and his time spent with various clubs and fellow rowers, were always full of life and humor. He was a force to be reckoned with, and his drive to make things happen left an enduring impact on every club and athlete he worked with.

Noel’s dedication, passion, and high expectations have left a lasting imprint on the rowing community. Those who knew him were inspired by his philosophy to always strive for the best possible outcome—not just in rowing, but in life itself.

Rowing Ireland extends its deepest condolences to Noel’s daughters, Bernie and Caroline, and their families. Noel’s legacy will live on through the rowers he coached, the clubs he supported, and the countless lives he touched.

Thank you, Noel, for everything you have given to rowing. Row well, and rest in peace after a life truly well lived.
