Shandon Head of the River 2024 took place this Saturday at the Marina Cork. Crews of all ages from across the country gathered to row the 4.5km race in 4x/- and 8+’s. Racing kicked off at 10:30 am with the Men’s Senior 8+ event, which was won by the University of Galway. UCC was later successful in the Women’s Senior 4- with a time of 22:09 against the flow of the River Lee. Overall, 130 crews competed throughout the day, with racing concluding at 2:30 pm.
Another hugely successful event was the Newry Head of the River, which also took place this weekend. Over 140 crews raced on the Newry Canal from 13 different clubs across the country. Methodists J18 Men’s 8+ were the fastest overall along the 5000m course with a time of 15:53.5, along with Neptune’s Women’s Senior 4X-, which put down an impressive time of 17:27.8. Along with racing, a great spread of food was enjoyed by all attending the event.
Both events were hugely successful. Congratulations to all the athletes that competed, and well done to all the organisers, marshals, stewards, and coaches that helped make these events possible
