Rowing Ireland’s Coach Education Programme is delivered by experienced Coach Developers who are trained by Sport Ireland Coaching (SIC).

We are now looking for experienced coaches who want to be involved in the development and support of coaches within the sport by becoming a SIC trained Coach Developer.

The Certificate in Sports Coach Development involves the development of Sports Coach Developers and provides learners with the skills required to deliver effective coach education courses and to identify and deliver relevant support to coaches in non-formal contexts. On successful completion of the programme, candidates will be deployed to train and support coaches at a level commensurate with their own coaching experience.   

The Certificate in Sports Coach Development is recognised as a QQI Level 7 Special Purpose Certificate in Sports Coach Development.

Applicants should:

  • Hold a Rowing Ireland coaching qualification Level 2 or higher. An exemption to this is possible where the applicant possesses particular skills or experience that would benefit the Coach Education Programme.
  • Be actively coaching for at least five years.
  • Minimum 18 years of age
  • IELTS Level 6 or equivalent (for applicants for whom English isn’t their first language)

Training  involves attendance at all five contact weekends listed below. There will also be Coach Developer-related workshops, distance learning tasks, presentation tasks, observation tasks and delivery of coach education courses. 

Training Dates are:

Pre-course online session:30/8/23
Weekend 1: 16/17 Sept ’23   
Weekend 2:7/8 Oct ’23
Weekend 3:11/12 Nov ’23
Weekend 4:9/10 Dec ’23
Weekend 5:6/7 Jan ’24

On successful completion of the necessary assessments and graduation, Coach Developers will be asked to commit to the delivery of coach education courses for a minimum of 6 days per year for 3 years.

The fee for each nominee is €1200, which is covered by Rowing Ireland.
