The first day of the World Beach Sprint Finals is finished and Ireland have three crews through to the quarterfinals, one crew into the repechage and one crew into the second time trial.
Kealan Mannix came tenth in the Men’s Scull time trial and progresses to the round two time trial tomorrow morning at 9:42am. The top eight crews in the tomorrow will progress to the quarterfinals on Sunday.
Niamh Doogan, Dineka Maguire, Noel Creedon, Kealan Mannix and Cian Sweeney are through to the quarterfinals of the Mixed Coxed Quad tomorrow afternoon. They placed eight in the time trial, which progressed them to the Repechage against the crew from Japan. After winning the Repechage by 10 seconds they qualified for the next round.
The Mixed Double of Miriam Sheehan and David Hussey finished 13th in the first time trial, which meant they had to race again in the round two time trial where they came 7th. This finish puts them through to the repechage tomorrow against Germany.
The Junior Men’s Double of Shane Rafferty and Aidan Kearney are through to the quarterfinals. The St Michaels athletes came 7th in the time trial, which put them into the Repechage against Germany. A win in the Rep this afternoon means that they face USA in the quarter final on Sunday
Monika Dukarska is through to the quarterfinals of the Women’s Scull on Sunday. Finishing 6th in her time trial, Monika directly qualified for the quarter finals, bypassing the round two time trial tomorrow.
The Junior Women’s Double, Junior Women’s Scull, Junior Mixed Double and Junior Men’s Scull narrowly missed out in their repechages to qualify to the next rounds.
