Rowing Ireland is delighted to announce the appointment of Barry McWilliams as its new Chair. Barry, who has been involved in rowing for over 25 years, brings a wealth of experience and passion to the role. His appointment marks an exciting new chapter for the organisation as it continues to promote and develop the sport across Ireland.

Barry McWilliams, currently the Northern Ireland Representative on the Rowing Ireland Board, has a longstanding connection with the sport through his work with Queen’s University Belfast Boat Club. A former Captain of QUBBC, Barry has also been Captain of the alumni club, the Lady Victoria Boat Club, and has been instrumental in establishing a strong coaching structure at Queen’s University Belfast.

Beyond his rowing credentials, Barry brings extensive leadership and management experience. He manages a portfolio of projects for client companies across Northern Ireland, focusing on improving productivity and fostering a positive culture for international impact. His expertise in integrating the latest research with established practices will be invaluable to Rowing Ireland as it continues to grow and innovate.

As Chair, Barry McWilliams aims to build on the organisation’s success, enhancing support for athletes, clubs, and the wider rowing community while ensuring the sport’s sustainable growth. Rowing Ireland looks forward to his leadership and vision as the sport continues to thrive both nationally and internationally.
