The Student Sport Ireland (SSI) Women’s Student Coaching Academy launched this week at the Sport Ireland Campus, featuring a record participation of ten coaches from rowing clubs across the country. Congratulations to these dedicated coaches and their supportive clubs.
Now in its 4th year, the aim of the Women’s Student Coaching Academy, in conjunction with Sport Ireland and NGBs, is to provide female student coaches with the support system that will enable them to develop and reach their coaching potential. Furthermore, the academy aims to increase the number and visibility of female coaches in third-level institutions and create female role models for other female students to progress into coaching.
Throughout the year, the coaches on the programme will coach a team or athletes, while working alongside a mentor coach. They will also undertake a coaching course with their NGB, keep a weekly journal to track their coaching journey and attend workshops and training offered by SSI.
Today’s workshop involved three inspirational and experienced speakers. Liam Moggen, the ‘godfather’ of coaching, Paul Kilgannon, the author of the Carver Coaching Framework and Lizzie Kent, the current Wexford Ladies Football manager all shared their knowledge of and passion for coaching.
Rowing Ireland are delighted to support 10 young women as they start their coaching journey. Well done to all participants on their enthusiasm and professionalism today. The future is bright!
