A fantastic water trial was held last weekend in Castleconnell with nearly 100 competitors over the 2 days of trials. The standard across the trial was extremely high, the Selection Committee were very impressed with the level of competition and engagement shown by all athletes involved.
Rowing Ireland would like to thank Swift and ROWfit for supplying boats for the trial and for their continued support of the Beach Sprint trial process.
As we move forward in the process, we unfortunately have to make difficult decisions regarding progression to the next phase of trials. Attached to this post is the list of athletes who have been selected to move forward to the next trial.
Due to a number of logistical considerations, the next trial will no longer take place in June as originally anticipated. Instead, the next assessment opportunity will take place in two different sections:
- July 19th at Duneen Beach (https://maps.app.goo.gl/dUrdfV6UPeuDfwtY6) For Seniors Only
- August 8th at Portnoo Beach (https://maps.app.goo.gl/FmgsVVyxTBDwmqkW7) For Juniors & Seniors
- August 9th at Portnoo Beach (https://maps.app.goo.gl/FmgsVVyxTBDwmqkW7) For Juniors Only
A cut can be expected for Seniors after the 19th July and for Seniors and Juniors after the 8th Aug.
Further details, including schedules and formats, will be circulated in due course.
We would encourage triallists to attend the Courtmacsherry Beach Sprints Regatta (on June 13th) and the Ring Beach Sprints Regatta (on July 18th) to get as much experience as possible. Attendance at this regatta is not compulsory for any triallist but some of the Beach Sprints Committee will be there and would like to see you in action in race scenario (this will have no official bearing on the trialling process though).
PPT Testing
Going forward we will not be requiring submissions for PPT4. We are removing this testing phase due to the emphasis athletes will be putting towards on the water training. We will however want PPT5 submissions from all athletes progressing still (due on the 2nd August) and expect to see a big improvement from the PPT3 tests.
