HER Outdoors Week returns from 10th–16th August 2026, encouraging women and girls across Ireland to embrace the outdoors, try something new and enjoy shared experiences in nature.

Led by Sport Ireland, the national campaign celebrates the freedom, fun and sense of discovery that outdoor activity can offer. This year’s theme, #EmbraceYourSpace, invites women and girls of all ages and abilities to find an outdoor activity that works for them.

Rowing Ireland is encouraging clubs across the country to mark the week by organising a welcoming activity for women and girls within their club or local community. Activities do not need to be large or complicated-a simple, enjoyable social event can be a great way to bring existing members together while introducing new participants to rowing.

Activity ideas for clubs

Clubs could consider organising:

  • A picnic adventure row using touring or recreational boats
  • A mothers-and-daughters rowing session followed by a BBQ
  • A sunset social row with coffee and refreshments
  • An outdoor erg team challenge or beginner taster session
  • A nature or landmark trail completed by crews on the water
  • An open morning inviting local women and girls to try rowing

Clubs should select an activity that suits their location, equipment, volunteer capacity and participants. All activities must follow the club’s usual safety, safeguarding, supervision and risk-assessment procedures.

€100 club activity grant

Rowing Ireland is offering a €100 grant to selected affiliated clubs to help facilitate a small HER Outdoors Week event.

The grant can contribute towards reasonable event costs such as refreshments, BBQ supplies, activity materials, venue or equipment costs, or simple promotional materials. Clubs should use the funding to create an accessible, social and enjoyable outdoor experience for women and girls.

Clubs wishing to apply should complete the short application form, outlining their proposed activity, intended participants and how the €100 contribution will be used.
