Rowing Ireland has reviewed the application of the rule change approved at the December 2025 EGM in relation to registration points and their effect for the 2026 season.
The issue arose from a difference between the intended transitional understanding of the rule change and how the rule was subsequently implemented in practice. This created unintended consequences for some athletes, including the application of registration points in a way that was not understood to be the intended transitional position.
The matter was raised again at the May 2026 AGM and has also been tabled for further consideration at the July 2026 EGM.
Following a recommendation from the Rules Working Group, the Board considered the matter at its meeting on 11 June 2026. In accordance with Interpretation Rule 1.16, the Board has determined the following clarifications. These clarifications take effect immediately for the administration of the 2026 season.
1. Transitional application of registration points
Registration points that were applied in a manner inconsistent with the intended transitional application of the December 2025 EGM decision will, for affected registrations, be deferred from 31 December 2025 to 31 December 2026.
2. Maximum application of registration points
Registration points under this rule apply only for the first two registration years relevant to the rule and are capped at 200 registration points. Where an athlete has already accumulated 200 registration points under this rule, no further registration points will be applied under this provision.
3. Proposed rule update
An amendment to Rule 2.19.1 is intended to be proposed at the EGM scheduled for 5 July 2026 to reflect the clarification set out at point 2 above and to ensure the rule is clear for future seasons.
Clubs with specific affected cases should contact Rowing Ireland so that these can be reviewed and addressed in line with this clarification.
