With Saturday’s racing over and an exciting Sunday ahead of us, we are looking forward to more achievements from our crews. Most of us Rowing fans will tune in to listen to, and watch the European Rowing Championships 2021, from Varese in Italy from the comfort of our homes.

The lockdown has been tough on all our rowing community including our senior Irish rowing team based in the National Rowing Center in Cork. The team has been isolating from family and friends and making many sacrifices to ensure they are in peak condition to take on the challenges of the 2021 season. The first of these challenges comes in the form of the 2021 European Championships.

Not every club are fortunate enough to have a rower at the top level at the moment but, in these very successful times for Irish Rowing every top Irish Rower has a very proud club. The clubs that nurtured and developed the talent that is now successfully representing us all at the top level in world rowing. The excellent talent that is coming through our Irish clubs is due to the hard work and dedication of all our club volunteers and coaches with experience and knowledge giving their time to develop and encourage young talent. Without these clubs, coaches and volunteers the current Rowing Ireland teams at all levels would not be as successful.

It is very important that we acknowledge and promote the tremendous achievements of our wonderful clubs. We know that without clubs we don’t have our athletes and everyone of us in Rowing Ireland are proud how they bring our sport to the World stage and forefront of Irish Sport.

Congratulations to all our Irish European Championship athletes and their clubs
