Rowing Ireland has been informed by the Lough Rinn Regatta Committee that this Saturday’s 2026 Lough Rinn Regatta has been cancelled due to forecast weather conditions.
The decision was made following updated forecasts predicting strong north-easterly winds in excess of 25km/h, with gusts expected to exceed 40km/h, making conditions unsuitable for racing.
The early decision has been taken to allow clubs, athletes, volunteers and supporters adequate time to amend travel and accommodation arrangements where necessary.
In a statement issued today, the organising committee thanked all those involved in preparing for the event, including Rowing Ireland, Connacht clubs, Leitrim County Council, Leitrim Sports Partnership, Leitrim Tourism and Lough Rinn Sport & Recreation Hub.
While disappointing for everyone involved, Rowing Ireland acknowledges the work of the organising committee and volunteers in preparing for the event and appreciates the proactive approach taken in the interest of participant safety.
Rowing Ireland looks forward to returning to Lough Rinn later this season for the Rowing Ireland 1K Classic.
