Rowing Ireland is delighted to congratulate Mags Cremen on being named The Echo’s Women in Sport Award winner for September.

This award recognises Mags’s remarkable achievements both at home and abroad — most notably her gold-medal performance at the 2025 World Rowing Championships in Shanghai, where she and teammate Fintan McCarthy claimed victory in the Mixed Double Sculls, a new event on the World Rowing programme.

Despite limited time training together, the Cork duo delivered an exceptional performance, showing trademark composure and skill to dominate their races and secure Ireland’s first world title in the category.

Speaking to The Echo, Mags reflected on their chemistry in the boat:

“We did no practising, but it just clicked. We both trusted ourselves and we’ve similar styles on the water, we’re absolutely demons rowing!”

A proud Cork athlete, Mags began her rowing journey with Lee Rowing Club and continues to row with UCC Rowing Club, balancing her Masters studies with life as a Rowing Ireland High Performance athlete based at the National Rowing Centre in Cork.

Mags is no stranger to the Olympic stage — she represented Ireland at both Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024, and now has her sights set firmly on Los Angeles 2028.

“Winning gold was special, but the goal now is to qualify again for the Olympics,” she added.

Rowing Ireland extends its warmest congratulations to Mags Cremen on this well-deserved recognition from The Echo and looks forward to supporting her continued journey toward LA 2028.
