Rowing Ireland held a Coastal Extraordinary Delegate Meeting (EDM) on 19 April in a hybrid format, with delegates attending both online and in person at the Maldron Hotel, Portlaoise. Chaired by Coastal Committee Chair Rob Dunne, the meeting brought together Rowing Ireland representatives, including President Jane Williams, Board Directors, the Interim CEO Matt McKerrow, staff, and delegates from coastal clubs nationwide. Discussions were wide-ranging and constructive, focusing on governance structures, communication, the role of Board Directors, and the services provided to clubs, while also giving delegates the opportunity to raise the issues that prompted the meeting.
Key decisions included the approval of separate Coastal Sweep and Coastal Scull Committees (11–3, with one abstention) and the re-establishment of the Coastal Scull Committee (12–3). Motions relating to a combined committee were not progressed, and proposed rule amendments will instead be considered at a forthcoming EGM. It was also agreed that all approved changes will be subject to ratification at the Rowing Ireland AGM, meaning the current Coastal Committee structure will remain in place until then. The meeting concluded with thanks to delegates for their constructive and insightful contributions to discussions on the future governance of coastal rowing.
All Coastal clubs have been emailed the meeting summary.
