As part of Rowing Ireland’s commitment to good governance and clear communication, we are creating a spotlight on key policies. This series is designed to help clubs, committees, volunteers, and affiliated groups stay informed and aligned with best practice across the organisation.

We begin this week with an important update on the Social Media Policy (Version 2.0, May 2025), approved by the Rowing Ireland Board.

Social Media Guidelines for Clubs & Committees
Social media plays a crucial role in promoting our sport, celebrating athletes’ achievements, and connecting with our community. However, it also brings responsibility. The Social Media Policy outlines the standards expected of all stakeholders, including clubs, event organisers, and affiliated committees.

Use of Rowing Ireland Branding
Any group using the Rowing Ireland name or logo online must first receive written approval from the CEO. This includes pages for events, committees, or regional groups.

Official Accounts
Rowing Ireland maintains one verified account per platform. Any sub-groups wishing to manage additional accounts under Rowing Ireland branding must:

  • Request approval
  • Use appropriate tone and visual identity
  • Be managed by a named administrator approved by Rowing Ireland

Content Standards
All affiliated accounts must reflect Rowing Ireland’s values of respect, inclusion, and professionalism.

Content should never:

  • Disclose confidential or internal matters
  • Criticise athletes, clubs, staff, or sponsors
  • Use inappropriate, discriminatory, or offensive language

Managing Public Queries
Accounts should acknowledge queries politely and direct individuals to official email contacts. Private information should not be shared in public comment threads.

Policy Compliance
Failure to follow the Social Media Policy may lead to disciplinary action. All content – even in private groups – may be subject to review if concerns are raised.

Next Steps for Clubs & Committees
If your club, event, or group currently manages a social media account under the Rowing Ireland name:

  • Confirm whether you have formal approval from the CEO
  • Review your content, branding, and tone for compliance
  • Ensure a named and responsible administrator is in place

If you are unsure whether your current setup is compliant or if you would like to seek approval for an account, please get in touch with us at communications@rowingireland.ie and download the full Social Media Policy HERE.

Let’s work together to maintain a positive and professional voice for rowing — online and off.
