The Federation of Irish Sport celebrated the recipients of the 2025 Volunteers in Sport Awards, recognising outstanding individuals whose dedication and commitment continue to strengthen sport and physical activity in communities across Ireland.
Supported by the Sport Ireland National Network of 29 Local Sports Partnerships, the awards recognised 36 exceptional volunteers representing every county in Ireland, including four awardees from Dublin. Each recipient was honoured for their significant contribution at grassroots level, helping clubs and communities thrive through their time, energy and passion for sport.
The awards ceremony took place on Thursday, 26 February 2026, at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, Blanchardstown, where Minister for Sport & Postal Policy, Charlie McConalogue TD, delivered the keynote address.
The rowing community was proudly represented among this year’s honourees, with two volunteers recognised for their exceptional service and contribution to the sport:
Tommy McMahon, Belturbet Rowing Club (Cavan):
Rory Clarke, Sligo Rowing Club:
Both individuals have played an important role in supporting participation and development within their respective clubs, contributing countless hours to coaching, organisation and community engagement.
The awards ceremony was attended by Rowing Ireland President Jane Williams and Interim CEO Matt McKerrow, who were present to acknowledge and celebrate the achievements of the rowing honourees and the wider volunteer community.
The 2025 awards attracted a record number of nominations, spanning more than 49 sporting disciplines, reflecting the diversity and strength of volunteering across Ireland. Volunteers remain central to the success of sport nationwide, enabling participation opportunities and fostering inclusive, welcoming environments at the local level.
The Federation of Irish Sport Volunteers in Sport Awards once again highlighted the invaluable contribution volunteers make every day, ensuring sport remains accessible, vibrant and community-driven across the country.
